St. Thomas Aquinas’ Treatise on Happiness: Pastoral Studies Institute Class
Posted: 02/20/2012 Filed under: diocese, education Leave a comment »Since every end or goal must in some way be known before the means for arriving at this goal, St. Thomas places his Treatise on Happiness at the very beginning of his work on Moral Theology.
St. Thomas shows how happiness is inseparable from the good, but there are many goods which people have commonly pursued, such as wealth, pleasure, fame, or power. But none of these can satisfy the human heart’s deepest desire for happiness. Our knowledge of the ultimate good is the foundation for understanding the means for attaining the goal of human happiness.
